Gender Reveal on Google Meet, FaceTime or Teams

Your family is already on a video call. You do not have to swap tools or ask anyone to install anything. Keep the call for faces and voices, and add one link for the reveal itself.

Short answer: stay on your Google Meet, FaceTime or Teams call, and share one link in the chat. Guests open it on their phone beside the call, with no app and no account, and everyone sees the result at the same moment while still seeing each other on the call. The party is available in 24 languages, so relatives who prefer another language can read it their own way.

Why not run the reveal inside the call?

A video call is great for faces and voices, but it was not built for a reveal. Everyone sees your screen share at a slightly different moment, a slow connection can freeze the big second, and someone always has the sound off. A separate link gives every guest the result on their own screen at once, and the call stays what it is good at: seeing each other react.

The setup in five steps

  1. Start your call as usual. Google Meet, FaceTime or Teams all work the same way here, because the reveal does not run inside them.
  2. Create a free party on Diaper Reveal. You get a link and a 6-letter code. Our guide to hosting a gender reveal online walks through the screens.
  3. Paste the link in the call chat. On FaceTime, send it by message to the group. Say the code too, for anyone who prefers to type it.
  4. Guests open it on a phone (or a second device) and keep the call on their laptop or tablet. They tap the link, add a name and they are in.
  5. Reveal together. The host starts the reveal and every guest sees the result at the same moment.

Tips for each app

Google Meet

Paste the link in the Meet chat so it stays visible for late joiners. Ask guests to look at their phone, not at the call, when the reveal starts. Time limits and guest rules on free Meet meetings can differ by plan and change over time, so check your plan before the day.

FaceTime

Share the link by message to the group before you call, so nobody has to dig for it. FaceTime is built for Apple devices, so if some relatives use Android or Windows, they may need another way into the call. A reveal link opens in a phone browser, so they can still take part. Check what your own devices support.

Microsoft Teams

Teams is often tied to a work account, so make sure you use one that allows personal meetings and outside guests. Meeting length and guest access depend on the plan, so check your plan or settings first. Paste the reveal link in the meeting chat.

Muting, screen sharing and sound

  • Mute everyone except the host during the final seconds, then unmute for the reaction. Many guests in different rooms can create echo and delay.
  • Do not screen share the reveal. Sharing makes people watch a delayed copy. Send the link, and let each guest watch on their own phone.
  • Lower the phone volume for guests who sit next to their laptop, or use headphones, so the sound does not feed back into the call.
  • Pick one person to count down out loud. Because the link reveals at the same moment for everyone, a shared countdown feels natural.

Time limits and group size

Free plans of some video apps limit how long a meeting can run or how many people can join, and these rules change. The reveal link does not depend on your call, but the call still does. Check your plan for the time and guest limit before inviting everyone, and keep the whole gathering short. For bigger groups, see virtual gender reveal for large groups.

If some guests cannot join the call

The link works without the call. Grandparents who struggle with video apps can open only the link on their phone and watch the reveal with everyone else. Send it in the family chat too, as covered in our WhatsApp gender reveal guide. Using Zoom? See the Zoom gender reveal guide, and for people in different time zones, see long distance gender reveals.

After the party the host is emailed a short memory film. It is free to download for 14 days, and $5 a year keeps it, handy for relatives who could not attend.

Frequently asked questions

Can I do a gender reveal on Google Meet?

Yes. Keep the Meet call for faces and voices and paste one reveal link in the chat. Guests open it on a phone and everyone sees the result at the same moment. Nothing needs installing.

Does a FaceTime gender reveal work for Android users?

FaceTime is built for Apple devices, so Android and Windows relatives may need another way to join the call. The reveal link itself opens in a phone browser, so they can still be part of the moment. Check what your own devices support.

Do guests need an app or an account?

No. They open the link, or type the 6-letter code, add a name and join. There is nothing to download and no sign-up.

Is there a time limit on the call?

Free video call plans may limit meeting length or group size, and the rules change over time, so check your plan. The reveal link is separate from the call, so keep the gathering short and plan the reveal early in it.

Should I screen share the reveal?

It is better not to. Screen sharing shows people a delayed copy and can freeze on a slow connection. Share the link instead, so each guest sees the result on their own phone at the same moment.
