A good baby shower thank-you note names the gift, says how you will use it, and adds one warm line, in two or three sentences. Send it within a few weeks of the gift arriving. Late is better than never, so keep a list of who gave what.
We already have a general guide to baby shower thank-you messages and a method for tracking registry gifts and a plan for a virtual baby shower with an online registry. This post covers the tricky cases people ask about.
Gifts bought from your registry
Registry gifts are the easiest to thank, because you already know what each person bought. Check the purchased list, then name the item and where it lives now.
- "Thank you for the baby carrier. It was top of our list, and it is already getting a daily workout on walks."
- "The muslin set is so soft. Thank you for choosing something we will use every single day."
With a free baby registry guests claim a gift before buying it, so it shows as taken, so you can write notes from the list instead of guessing from the parcels. If the same family also joins your gender reveal, you can host it online and thank them in person on the call.
Cash or gift card
You do not need to state the amount. Say what it is going towards.
- "Thank you so much for the gift. We are putting it towards the pram, and every time we use it we will think of you."
- "Your generosity means a lot. It is going into the nursery fund, and we cannot wait to show you the room."
Group or office gifts
When several people chipped in, thank the group and, if you can, add a short personal line for each. A short card in the group chat works if there are many names.
- "Thank you all for the beautiful cot. It is perfect, and we loved that it came from everyone."
Guests who could not attend
Some people send a gift without coming. Thank them for the gift and say you missed them.
- "We missed you at the shower, but your gift made us smile. Thank you for thinking of us. We will send you photos soon."
Gifts from relatives abroad
Parcels from other countries can arrive late, or a relative may buy from a different shop. A thank-you works even if the gift is still on its way: "We hear it is coming, thank you so much already." A registry that works with any shop and any country makes it easier to see what was chosen.
A photo helps. Send a quick picture of the baby using the gift, or of you opening the parcel. It can be a message in the family chat.
A simple gift list
| Guest | Gift | Date received | Thank-you sent |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aunt Sara | Sleep suit set | 12 May | Yes |
| Work team | Cot (group) | 14 May | Drafted |
| Grandpa (abroad) | Money gift | Pending | No |
Update the list as gifts arrive. At the end of the week, write the notes for everything marked "No".
When to send
- Say a quick thanks in person or by message on the day.
- Write the written notes in batches of five or ten.
- Aim for a few weeks. Many people finish after the baby arrives, and that is fine.
Frequently asked questions
How soon should I send baby shower thank-you notes?
Within a few weeks is a common goal, but there is no strict rule. A late, sincere note is better than none.
Do I need to mention the amount of a cash gift?
No. Thank them and say what the money is going towards, such as the pram or nursery.
Should I thank guests who did not attend?
Yes, if they sent a gift. Thank them for the gift and say you missed them.
Can a thank-you be a text message?
For close friends and family, many people send a warm message. A handwritten note feels special for older relatives, but choose what suits you.
