Short answer: if you like Babylist's idea (one list, any store) but want something different, Zola and MyRegistry are the closest established alternatives, GiftList is the simplest, Target fits parents who mostly shop at Target, and Diaper Reveal's free registry fits families who want one link, no app and a list that guests can read in 24 languages. Babylist itself remains a good pick if you want its app, cash funds and shop. Which is best depends on where you live and where your guests shop.

Zola
Zola's baby page says you can add gifts "from any online store," or even "an entire registry from another store," and that friends and family need no app to shop. It offers a zero-fee cash fund option (cash sent to a bank account carries a standard 2.5% transaction fee) and a "15% off Expected Arrival discount" of up to $300 in total. Fits: parents who like a polished app with cash funds and a discount, and shop mainly in the US.
MyRegistry
MyRegistry says "there's no charge to have a registry," that you can add "any item from any store in the world" using its browser extension, and that a Cash Gift Fund carries "a small transaction fee" (the amount isn't stated on the page). It links to pages for Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK, and a list can be shared by custom URL, social media, eCards or printed announcements. Fits: parents who want one long-established universal list and sharing options such as print.
GiftList
GiftList says creating and sharing lists costs nothing, and that you can "paste a link from any online store and the item is added to your list." Givers need no account, only a name and email. They buy from the retailer, then mark the gift as purchased, so others can see it's taken, and the giver's name stays hidden from the list owner until the owner chooses to reveal it. Fits: anyone who wants the simplest possible universal list.
Target
Target's baby registry page talks about a free welcome kit with samples, a "15% off registry completion coupon" (a Target Circle bonus, redeemable twice, terms apply) and easy in-store returns. It doesn't state what the registry itself costs, and it doesn't address adding items from other stores, so check there before assuming either. Fits: parents who plan to buy most things at Target and want its perks.
Diaper Reveal
Our free baby registry is free, works with gifts from any store (you paste a product link, or use the checklist), and gives you a shareable link. Guests mark a gift as given so two people don't buy the same thing. There's no app to install, and guests can read the list in 24 languages. Not ideal for: parents who want a store's own perks, such as a welcome box or completion discount. Diaper Reveal has no shop of its own.
How to choose
| If you want... | Consider |
|---|---|
| An app, cash funds and a shop | Babylist or Zola |
| A big discount tied to one retailer | Target (check its terms), or Zola's Expected Arrival discount |
| The simplest universal list | GiftList or Diaper Reveal |
| Print and sharing options | MyRegistry |
| No app, and guests reading the list in their own language | Diaper Reveal |
If you live outside the US, the key question is whether your guests are sent to a shop that delivers to you. We cover that in Babylist alternatives outside the US. For a wider side-by-side of free registries, see Best free baby registries, and our baby registry checklist for what to put on yours.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best alternative to Babylist?
It depends on what you want from it. Zola and MyRegistry are established universal registries, GiftList is the simplest, and Diaper Reveal is a free, no-app registry that works with gifts from any store. Each says on its own page that you can add items from other stores, except Target, whose page doesn't address it.
Is Babylist free?
Babylist's website says it is "100% free to create and use." Some extras, such as the Hello Baby Box, have their own costs, so read its pages for details.
Can I use a baby registry that isn't tied to one store?
Yes. Babylist, Zola, MyRegistry, GiftList and Diaper Reveal all let you add items from other stores by link or button. Pick the one whose guest experience you prefer.
Do my guests need to download an app?
Not for Zola, whose page says no app is required for friends and family shopping, or for GiftList and Diaper Reveal, which need no app. Check Babylist's and MyRegistry's pages for their guest experience.
Is Diaper Reveal's registry really free?
Yes. No fees, no account and no app. Some Amazon links are affiliate links, so the store may pay a small commission; the price for guests does not change.
